Meet Luke and His Family

We have all known exceptional people like Luke; a blend of determined motivation, straight-shooting honesty and a youth spent building character the way Hoosier kids used to grow up - knowing they had to earn whatever success would come their way.

And Luke Kenley has earned that success not just in his public life, but in his private life as well. A committed family man, Luke has built upon the wisdom of five generations of Kenleys in Indiana and has made their Hoosier values his own. These are the kind of values that continue to serve all of us well; a commitment to pursuing a first rate education, a responsibility to those who made our successes possible, and a gratitude for all the blessings of this life.

Here's more you want to know about Luke Kenley:

  • Born in Texas while his father served during World War II, Luke was raised in Noblesville, Indiana, as the oldest of eight children.
  • Sadly, Luke's mother died when he was just 9, and he took on many care taking responsibilities for his younger brothers and sisters.
  • During childhood summers, Luke worked as a cowboy on his grandparents' ranch in Texas.
  • At Noblesville High School Luke was an outstanding athlete and served as senior class president and captain of the football team.
  • Luke and his wife, Sally, were high school sweethearts. In Sally, Luke found his match. She was the high school yearbook editor and even ran against him for class president in junior high.
  • Luke received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, while Sally received her bachelor's degree in Education from Butler University.
  • After marrying Sally, Luke attended law school at Harvard University. Sally taught school in Cambridge, while Luke went to Harvard - Luke termed it a "wife scholarship."
  • After serving in the Army during which twin sons were born, and completing law school, Luke and Sally returned to Noblesville where they raised their twin sons, Bill and John, and daughter, Betsy.
  • Today, their son Bill is a teacher at Noblesville High School; John is an attorney living in Seattle, Wash., and Betsy is a teacher in San Francisco, Cal.
  • Luke joined his father working in the family grocery business back in his hometown. He was the third generation to work in the grocery business - his grandfather was a meat cutter, and his father started Kenley Supermarkets.
  • The business grew from 20 employees to 175, and expanded from $2 million per year to $16 million per year in sales under Luke's leadership.
